Developing Intelligence Through Joyful Play

Posted in Parenting

When children beg for toys, or when you are choosing playthings for them yourself, some parents tend to make superficial decisions. In reality, you should choose toys that are not only interesting for children to play with but also support their growth and development. This article will explain which types of toys you should choose based on a child's age.

For Children Under Five

As this is the age when the brain and body first begin to develop, you should provide toys that are simple yet conducive to development. For example, toys like Shape Sorters, where children must fit circles, triangles, and squares into their corresponding holes, help them become familiar with basic shapes and improve their problem-solving skills. Additionally, it serves as practice for gripping objects firmly with their hands.

For Children Aged Five to Ten

Once children surpass age five and are under ten, their curiosity increases and their brain and physical development accelerate. The things they play with during this time can impact on them for the rest of their lives. Therefore, you should provide toys that provide significant mental stimulation. The best option is building toys like LEGO. Experts believe these types of toys help children excel in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

For Children Above Ten

As children pass the age of ten, they are capable of reaching into broader and deeper fields of knowledge. At this stage, toys should be more than just playthings. You should provide more detailed and complex challenges, such as Jigsaw Puzzles or advanced LEGO sets with many pieces. For intelligent children, this is also a great time to introduce basic coding toys or robot-building kits.

A child’s future depends heavily on the experiences they have throughout their childhood. Therefore, I encourage dads and moms to nurture them thoughtfully, considering their future rather than just looking for ways to keep them quiet or briefly entertained.
